Barry Hill, next to Alyth, is crested by a small but very strong vitrified Pictish fort, dated by antiquarians as being within the Roman period and significantly defended from the south by 2 very strong rampart walls.

Legend goes that Queen Guinevere-following a misunderstanding with King Arthur was left prisoner on this lonely hill to the tender mercies of the wolves and the legend follows that she now rests in Meigle Churchyard 4 miles south of Barry Hill.
