Drumderg wind farm is located approximately 5km to the north east of Bridge of Cally and 10km to the north west of Alyth. The wind farm is situated on Drumderg hill, on the site of a World War II artillery firing range and very close to the actual Cateran Trail.

It is important because its potential in supplying electricity. Wind energy is an important addition to our survival. Unlike other sources of electricity that require fuel in processing plants, wind energy generates electricity through wind, which is free. Wind is considered a native fuel that does not need to be transported or mined, eliminating two costly expenses from long-term energy expenses.

Additionally, through the Drumderg wind farm, SSE provide around £79,000 per year to community and charitable projects in the Mount Blair and Alyth areas – through which the Trail travels. Over the life of the fund they expect to invest £1.6 million in local projects.
