Although the native Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) is something of a rarity in the Lowlands of Scotland, from where it has been driven by the American Grey Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis), it is commonly seen in the Perthshire and Angus glens, especially where there is mixed coniferous and broadleaved woodland, which can provide the food favoured by the Red Squirrel, which includes hazelnuts, acorns and pine seeds.
