The Alyth Voice was the brainchild of a local organisation called “The Crooked Dreel & Concealed Hinge Society” in 1997, primarily to record the views of the townspeople and be delivered free of charge to each household in Alyth and the immediate district. From its instant success, the Alyth Voice team became independent and have continued to develop the newsletter from its early 4 page spread to an average of 32 pages a month. Locally known as ‘The Voice’, the pages are filled with business adverts [the major funding source], articles and public notices, as well as reports from the many voluntary organisations in Alyth. The newsletter is managed by a team of 8 volunteers and delivered to every home in Alyth and district by nearly 50 volunteers, known as Voiceteers! The only source of funding is by public donation and advertisers. At present the circulation is 1600. The Voice has become an important part of Alyth and residents look forward to delivery of their monthly issue. With over ten years of successful publishing, the Voice goes from strength to strength and plans are in place to develop it further.
